The Advanced Builder Program is an intense, day and a half program of advanced seminars developed specifically for pool and spa builders. The sessions will focus on key subjects that are vitally important to any pool builder who wants to:

- Design and sell more expensive, elegant and elaborate pools
- Build a better quality pool
- Avoid the common mistakes that most builders make
The seminars are taught by nationally-renowned pool industry experts in the area of design, engineering, sales and marketing. Each of them will be sharing their "insider secrets" to help you "lead to the front" and avoid the mistakes that others make.

Ron Lacher, P.E., C.B.P., is the president of Pool Engineering, Inc. He holds a bachelors degree in civil engineering and is a registered professional engineer in California. Ron is a nationally recognized expert in swimming pool construction as well as swimming pool structural design. He is a Certified Building Professional (CBP™) by The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP®). Ron’s firm, Pool Engineering, Inc. has provided the structural designs for over 100,000 pools.
Ron’s affiliations include:
- the Advisory Board of the National Pool Industry Research Center at California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo
- the APSP Builders Council and Education Committee
- the Pool & Spa Committee of the American Shotcrete Association where he is an approved trainer for wet & dry mix shotcrete
- the Technical Committee of the International Association of Plumbing & Mechanical Officials for the “Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa & Hot Tub Code”
- the Swimming Pool Technical Sub-committee of The Ceramic Tile Institute of America for the preparation of ANSI installation Standards for tile and glass tile in swimming pools.
Ron has authored numerous articles on proper trade practices and structural engineering in swimming pool construction and is a well known seminar presenter at national and regional trade conferences.

Lew Akins, CBP

Lew Akins has been in the pool business since the late ‘70’s, initially in San Diego, and then in Texas. After founding Ocean Quest Pools in Austin Texas in 1984, Lew perfected and proliferated the "vanishing edge" concept, making it practical and affordable for residential homeowners.
Lew developed many other innovative designs and concepts over the years, and has won over 200 industry design awards in the process.
In 1998, Lew began teaching other pool builders how to build vanishing edge swimming pools and other award-winning, breath-taking pools. Later that same year, the National Spa & Pool Institute (NSPI) awarded Lew with their first-ever "Hall of Fame" award.
Lew is active as a pool design consultant, builder, author, educator and expert witness.
